Bracket Comparison

What Type of Braces is Right for Me and Why?

Orthodontists use two main types of braces to correct dental and jaw misalignments:

1. Removable Braces

  • Ideal for young children in early-phase or functional orthodontic treatment
  • Custom-made in our in-house lab
  • Available in fun colors, glitter, or with pictures – kids can design their own!

2. Fixed Braces (Multiband Systems) Consist of:

  • Bands (metal rings on back molars)
  • Brackets (glued to teeth)
  • Archwire (connects the brackets, applies pressure)

Bracket Types at Zahn im Glück –
An Overview We offer several fixed brace systems.

The choice depends on diagnosis and personal preferences. We’ll discuss options during your consultation.

Standard Metal Brackets

  • Made of stainless steel
  • Held with small wires or rubber bands (ligatures)
  • Visible, but fully covered by insurance

Self-Ligating Metal Brackets

  • Have a built-in clip to hold the archwire (no rubber bands)
  • Less friction = often faster treatment
  • More comfortable and easier to clean

Ceramic or Plastic Brackets

  • Tooth-colored or nearly transparent
  • Less visible than metal
  • Also available in self-ligating options
  • Great for aesthetics and for children with metal allergies

Mini Brackets

  • Much smaller than regular ones
  • Higher comfort, easier to clean, and less risk of cavities
  • Speed up treatment in many cases

Lingual Brackets (Inner Braces)

  • Placed on the inside of the teeth (invisible from the outside)
  • Can affect speech and cause tongue irritation
  • Not covered by insurance due to higher complexity
