Nutritional Counseling

“I want something sweet!” Better to have one larger portion than many small ones.

Our eating habits are shaped early—starting with the naturally sweet taste of breast milk. Children also learn by watching their parents. If mom and dad frequently drink soft drinks, it’s unrealistic to expect children to avoid them. The same applies to sweets.

What’s forbidden becomes extra tempting

Instead of forbidding foods, aim for balance and moderation. Be mindful of hidden sugars (like in ketchup, juices, or spreads) and acidic foods, which are often overlooked but harmful to teeth.

Small sugary snacks, like the occasional cookie, are especially damaging.Refined carbohydrates like white bread are converted to sugar in the mouth by the enzyme amylase, feeding cavity-causing bacteria that turn it into harmful acids.

Tooth-Friendly Snack Alternatives

For snacks between meals, we recommend vegetables, nuts (from a certain age), cheese, and mineral water. These choices give your child’s teeth important neutral phases—crucial periods of recovery and protection.

Nutrition is a broad and important topic. That’s why we recommend a personal consultation at our practice. We’ll gladly take the time to answer all your questions in detail.

In general, keep in mind: Small amounts of sugar consumed frequently throughout the day are more harmful to teeth than an occasional larger quantity.

What do I learn during the nutritional counseling?

We advise you on tooth-friendly nutrition, alternatives to sweets and sweeteners, as well as breaking bad habits like bottle-feeding, soft drinks, etc. Which foods are harmful to the teeth, which ones have positive effects on the enamel – we are happy to explain all of this to you upon request at our practice.

Are the recommendations easy to implement for my children?

The implementation of our advice is very simple – it often has more to do with consistency at home and the ability to enforce it with your own children. We are happy to give you tips and tricks to use at home.

Why is nutritional counseling so important?

Many foods hide sugar and acids that attack the tooth surface and damage the protective enamel. We help you find out in which of your foods these tooth-unfriendly ingredients are hidden.
